The screen is on gravel in a vacant block, close to steel buildings, close to a heap of rubbish, and is shaded by tall trees to the east.

This site is non-compliant, so temperatures recorded here are not reliable.  Kimba’s temperatures are published at the BOM Latest Weather Observations page, and also used by the BOM in weather reports, potentially including extremes of heat or cold. Kimba’s temperatures have a large impact on climate analysis, as they are used to adjust temperatures at the Acorn sites at Ceduna, Kyancutta, Tarcoola, Woomera, and Port Lincoln. Acorn sites are used for climate analysis- whether winters are getting warmer and summers hotter for example.  So the lack of quality at any site DOES MATTER!

Another FAIL.

Ken, it seems that the BOM simply cannot be trusted to get these weather station locations compliant with it’s own guidelines. Looking at an aerial view of Kimba, there are multiple better locations than the one they use.

While we are on the West coast of SA, I wondered about BOM’s important weather stations and where they are located. The Port Lincoln one is at the airport out in the middle of grass fields.. And the airport is ~ 10 ks. out of town. It is also on a peninsula about 2 ks from the coastline on two sides. No obvious non compliances at least to my eye. but maybe to yours Ken ?
