The station is on a very steep slope (1 in 7), right beside a concrete road and a driveway, close to a picket fence and less than 20 metres from a house.

This station is not compliant, but temperatures are reported at Latest Weather Observations.    Unreliable temperatures from here are also used to adjust data at Acorn sites.

Ken how level does a weather site have to be to be compliant ?

I’m thinking of setting up a weather station with rain gauge & thermometer. My own place is on a hill side sloping to the creek about 450 meters away. I suspect that could affect the temperatures recorded. Would it affect the rainfall recorded as well ?

It could affect rainfall. Wind across slope will be a different speed to up and down the slope, dunno how much that affects rainfall.

  3. Bill in Oz Says:

Most of our rain here comes from the North West to South West quadrant. That’s where the winds come from mostly with odd exception like the South wind when we had the polar blast 10 days ago. And lots of rain then as well.

    Hummmm ?

I don’t think slope will affect your rainfall enough to make much difference. My neighbour and I are on the same slope but mine is much steeper and I’m higher, and our measurements are always within 1 or 2 mm (when we get rain.)

    Thanks Ken
