The Wacky World of Weather Stations: No. 49- Singleton (NSW)

Please refer back to my first post for site specifications.

Station:  Singleton 61430

Opened: 2017

Daily Temperature data from: 2017

Data used to adjust Acorn sites at: —.

As this station is new, there is no metadata about it at Climate Data Online.  Also, it is a defence site.  Location is given as -32.7   151.16.  However, I have located the station at:

Location: Co-ordinates   -32.697553 151.15808

Google Maps:-

Singleton map

About 150km north of Sydney.

2019 Google Maps satellite image:

The screen is on bare dirt with several graded tracks close by.

This station is not compliant, but temperatures are reported at Latest Weather Observations.    It is too new for temperatures to be used to adjust data at Acorn sites.

Ken I wonder when the Google earth aerial shot dates from ?

The site looks as if it has been cleared with dozing equipment especially fort he BOM weather station. with only bare ground around it and under it.

Perplexing as this is a new BOM weather station site and surely the BOM discussed it’s guidelines with the Singleton base army staff. Or perhaps somebody just went gung ho with the gear..?

It says “Imagery (C) 2019” in the bottom bar so I take that as 2019. Can’t be before 2017!

The date does not show up for me when I use Google Earth on Chrome.. Puzzling
