I think it is curious Ken, how the sites that BOM selects for their BOM weather stations, always lead to higher temperature recordings than the ‘natural’ temperatures.

For example, in this locality, BOM could, with a little bit of ‘incompetence’ have put their weather station 100 meters away in the local Bombala council swimming pool area. That would probably have lead to lower than natural temperature records.

But BOM never seems to make this mistake.

The mistakes are always in a way which leads to higher temperatures being recorded.

So, the question must be asked, “Is this Deliberate ? “

Kne, for a long time I lived in East Gippsland. So the towns of Bairnsdale & east Gippsland were places I now well. On a hunch I looked at the BOM’s Lakes Entrance weather station. It is here : https://earth.google.com/web/@-37.87116041,148.0068893,7.97037598a,274.75495777d,35y,0h,0t,0r
BOM’s pdf for this station is here :

Some interesting aspects of this site :
1: It is way up on a hill outside of town ( No UHIE maybe ) And as it is on a hill cold air flows down hill.away from e BOM weather station
2: There is a big sealed car park close by
3: The Lakes Entrance heated indoor swimming pool is about 50 meters away
4 : There is also an Council office complex close by.

And just looked at Orbost. How would having a largish town water supply reservoir affect the readings at a BOMweather station. I estimate it to be about 40 meters away.

    Hi Bill
Lakes Entrance 84150 is one of the dodgy stations I was leaving till later for the “dishonourable mentions”- didn’t quite make it first time but that car park is a bit close. Didn’t know about the heated pool. Will have another look. Also Orbost.

Ken I’ve tried to find a photo of the complex. It was built in the early 1990’s. Butno luck to far, I used to swim there in Winters when it was too cold to swim at the beach.
