One Response to “The Wacky World of Weather Stations: No. 75- Griffith (NSW)”

  1. Bill in Oz Says:

Ken Griffith is a big town in the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area. ( MIA )

Looking at Google Earth for the whole surrounding area shows hundreds of irrigation blocks in various shades of green and other blocks that have been ploughed/disked for the next crop.
Among the crops grown there are the following : fruit trees ( citrus) olives, almonds, grapes, pistacios, figs, rice, wheat, (Many of the annual crop blocks are laser levelled to maximise the efficiency of irrigation)
The land around the Griffith BOM weather station is not cropped ( like Deniliquin ) or irrigated.

However the size of the irrigated area surrounding the airport must have an impact on temperatures measured at this BOM weather station.

In Spring & Summer there will be a huge amount of water vapour in the air from all this irrigation.
