Thursday 19/09/2019

Please refer back to my first post for site specifications and to No. 92- Logan City for 2018 specifications.

Station: Tewantin RSL Park 40908

Opened: 1995

Daily Temperature data from: 1996

Data used to adjust Acorn sites at: Gayndah

Location:   Co-ordinates  -26.3911 153.0403

Tewantin map

About 120km north of Brisbane.

2019 BOM site plan:

The screen is far too close to trees, a footpath, bitumen roads and parking areas, and enclosed by a black metal pool fence.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations and used to adjust data at Acorn sites.

FAIL

Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 14.23%.

We now leave SEQ and tomorrow will move up the coast to CQ and the Capricornia forecast district.  A summary of non-compliance rates at Queensland sites so far:

Darling Downs and Granite Belt:

9 stations, 1 can’t be checked, 4 probably compliant, 4 not:  50%.

Southeast Coast:

19 stations, 8 not compliant: 42%

Wide Bay and Burnett:

13 stations, 8 not compliant: 61.5%

SEQ sub-total:

40 checkable stations, 20 not compliant: 50%.

I’m embarrassed to be a Queenslander!

  1. Bill in Oz Says:

This BOM site is a bit of a trick one Ken. Tawantin with 10.000 people is just a suburb of Noosa urban region with 52,000 people in 2016 & still growing.

That’s lot of Urban Heat island effect at the BIM’s weather station. I suspect that most of the time the Air cons on all these houses are used to cool things down in the hot wet season period. But of course they all generate lots of hot air out the exhausts of their A/c’s.

PS Re being ’embarrassed’.. But you are not a BOM employee…

And do you have a counter on the number of times people are looking at your posts ? Just hoping the there are some silent but very embarrassed BOM employees looking at their all the Wacky BOM weather stations.
