The screen is 15 metres from a concrete tennis court, and a dirt vehicle track was close to the screen in 2016.  Since then an enclosure of some sort has been built.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations and used to adjust data at Acorn sites.

Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 15.19%.

Ken I have been having an online discussion with a mate here in SA about this and your posts. Here is what he wrote last night :

” The bottom line in all of this that his criteria are irrelevant. There are many more accurate methods for collecting weather data these day (eg satellites), which is why many of the old style weather stations are not being maintained. Time to move on Bill.”

I have replied already on Facebook..But maybe you would like to respond yourself as well ?

I certainly would agree that satellites provide much more accurate measures of temperature and climate. However, the BOM believes that its climate analysis based on surface air temperatures is state of the art; that’s why they put so much effort into Acorn. The same with GISS and HadCruT. That’s why these stations are so important.

Re Springsure BOM weather station … Well it’s on the edge of small town with only 1200 people, so there is no UHI effect.. And the weather station is not parked at the local airport near prop air wash or jet exhaust, like some we’ve seen, is it ?

So BOM got a couple of things right here at Springsure. Thye were trying Ken.

Pity about the concrete tennis court 15 meters away though. It really stuffs up any attempt to measure temperatures accurately. All that concrete just soaks up the sun’s energy and as a result get’s far hotter than the actual local, temperature.. And that heat is radiated back out at night slowly cooling down..But keeping the surrounding area warmer than usual…

And results like that on the thermometer are then interpreted as Climate warming at Springsure…

    Dear me !
