Station: Taroom Post Office 35070

Opened: 1870

Daily Temperature data from: 1957

Data used to adjust Acorn sites at: Barcaldine, Gayndah, Longreach, Miles.

Location:   Co-ordinates  -25.6408 149.7958

About 385 km north-west of Brisbane, 260 km south-south-west of Rockhampton.

Close to buildings, concrete, and shrubs.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations and used to adjust data at Acorn sites.


Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 15.33%.

That concludes Central Queensland, with 4 out of 8 checkable sites not compliant: 50%.  50% of all Queensland sites are non-compliant.  Tomorrow we move to Central Coast- Whitsundays district in NQ.

    Taroom is a small town with only 8-900 people. But the BOM has managed to find a site severely affected by UHI to place it’s weather station. Now that takes a real lack of professional ability !

    And Wikipedia makes special mention that Taroom is very flood prone with four major floods since European settlement .. The first was in 1890. with three more up to 2010..

    It would be interesting to look over the rain gauges for Taroom to see if there has been any major trend towards climate change.
