The station is very close to a wide concrete path, 12 metres from a bitumen carpark and roadway.  Trees to the north are too close.  It was moved to this location from a very poor site in 2005.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations and used to adjust data at Acorn sites.

Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 16.85%.

  1. Bill In Oz Says:

    Ummmm ?
Ken there are a number of competing factors at play with this BOm weather station
1 : The concrete path absorbs the energy from daily sunlight, heating the concrete, which then re radiates it back into the air around.where the BOM temperatre screen sits.
2 : Twenty-thirty meters away is a big strip of lovely sandy beach. And every each goer knows that thye get hot in the sun and so does the air above them…
3: A little bit further away is the sea. The water also absorbs the heat.So much so that the air above the water is cooler than over land. Again this is all our personal experience. this tends to limit maximum temperatures in the area. But the water re-radiates the heat at night gradually..And as there is so much water in the sea, that the minimum temperatures ( almost always at night ) are higher than a little way inland away from the sea.

All in all, a big dog’s breakfast ! I wonder why BOM ever set this site up.

And it is used to adjust the record at ACORN stations ? Yes ! Utter dopiness by BOM !
