The Wacky World of Weather Stations: No. 124- Innisfail Aero(Qld)

The station is close to a widely sprayed out (bare ground) fenceline, and 10 metres from a field of sugar cane which can vary from bare soil to over 4 metres tall.  There is an area of sprayed out bare ground nearby around the other instruments, and a 17 metre bitumen circle under the windsock is about 15 metres away.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations but not used to adjust data at Acorn sites.


Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 17.13%.

    That big circle of bitumen under the windsock is a real No No ! The BOM weather station should not be anywhere near that.
    Lots of extra energy from sunlight is absorbed and re-radiated back out warming the air above it.
    And of course, all those sugar cane blocks are a No No as well !

    But Ken at least this BOM station at Innisfail airport doesn’t have jet exhaust fumes affecting the thermometer ! Nor is it close to the terminal buildings.. So they were trying sort of !
