100km south-west of Townsville.

BOM site plan 2017:

Google satellite image 2019:

The screen is close to large areas of bare soil caused by vehicle movement, while the satellite image shows the surrounding area to have green grass (a rarity at The Towers), so the site is not representative and likely to be hotter in wet seasons.   Dust is likely to coat the screen and probably enters it, coating the temperature probe.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations and used to adjust data at Acorn sites.

Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 18.23%.

Ken my Google earth satellite photo does not say when the shot was taken. But it definitely shows lots of green. Sp presumably it was taken during or shortly after a big wet had happened.

The lack of any vegetation around the BOM weather site is bewildering. It takes a lot of or frequent vehicle movement to do that. And surely the staff at the airport have instructions not to drive on the BOM weather station area.

But yes, a definite stuff is happening here.

And it is used to adjust the ACORN BOM weather station data site
    at Townsville ?

    Duh ?
