Opened: 1998

Location:   Co-ordinates -20.7017 143.1167

The area around the screen is bare black soil and white shaley rock.  At times long grass has grown within 5 metres of the screen.   The apron and turning area is only 51 metres away.

Richmond is an Acorn station, part of the 112 station network which defines Australia’s official climate history.  This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations and used to adjust data at other Acorn sites.


Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 18.37%.

    Ken I can see long windrows of cut grass waiting to be baled. And I can see finished round bales as well. So the land around this airport has been cut for hay at some point in the recent past. I wonder how close the contractors came to the BOM weather station site ? Nothing about this in the BOM details Pdf !

    And yes the screen etc have been moved recently. There is a diamond shaped area close to the plane taxi area, which looks like it was the former site of the weather station. And it is definitely far to close to planes with their prop wash !
