All true Ken. Tambo is a small town with only 350 people. But the Google satellite photo shows a large B Double parking area to the North of the BOM weather station. That would not exist if there was not the need. And the need is created by Tambo being on the Landsborough Hwy – the most direct route from Brisbane to Darwin.

So I wonder about the UHI effect of those B Doubles parked there; any refrigerated ones would have their engines going while the drivers stopped for meals or sleep breaks.

About 20 years ago when the wool industry was failing and many western towns were going backwards a group of women from around Tambo set up a business making teddy bears out of sheepskin and wool as a way of generating a bit of income for the town and also publicising the hardships faced in the bush. The business prospered and was later sold, and still operates today. It’s an essential stop on the outback tourist trail. We bought a Tambo Teddy in September 2002. You’ll find it in Google Earth if you look around.
