The Wacky World of Weather Stations: No. 143- Charles Point (NT)

Opened: 1996

Location:   Co-ordinates  -12.3895 130.6306

23km west of Darwin.

The screen is 5 metres from a wide area of bare dirt. Apart from unrepresentative surface, dust from vehicle traffic will coat the screen and possibly the instruments.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations but not used to adjust data at Acorn sites.

FAIL

Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 19.75%.

    Ken I agree with your comments. But what else is happening at this site. There looks to be huge tower close by for Darwin airport or is it a BOM rain radar tower.
    If so then there is a lot more 4WD traffic to this site than simply for the BOM weather site.And lots more dust in the dry season coating the instruments and the screen..
