Wednesday 16/10/2019

Please refer back to my first post for site specifications and to No. 92- Logan City for 2018 specifications.  If you wish to check on this (or any) site for yourself, go to my post on how to check for yourself.

Station: Jabiru Airport 14198

Opened: 1984

Daily Temperature data from: 1971 (so it was moved!)

Data used to adjust Acorn sites at: Darwin.

Location:   Co-ordinates -12.6592 132.8940

220km east of Darwin.

BOM site plan 2017:

Google satellite image 2019:

Jabiru Airport is the airport for tourist flights to and around Kakadu NP, and for the nearby Ranger uranium mine, so can be pretty busy. Most of the area around the enclosure is bare dirt when it isn’t bitumen. The screen is 33 to 35 metres from bare soil aircraft parking and turning areas, and 60 metres from the tarmac turning area. BOM specifications state the distance should be 80 metres.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations and used to adjust data at Acorn sites.

Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 20.44%.

Ohhhh Dear ! The BOM is probably required to have this weather station there at the Jabiru airport…with all the problems that leads to for accurate temperature recording

But it is the BOM which is responsible to for using this ‘Data’ to adjust Acorn sites at: Darwin.

    Very stupid !
