The Wacky World of Weather Stations: No. 156- Cygnet Bay (WA)

Station: Cygnet Bay 3057

Opened: 1963

Daily Temperature data from: 1985

Data used to adjust Acorn sites at: Broome.

Location:   Co-ordinates -16.4513 123.0087

190km north-east of Broome, 950km south-west of Darwin, 1,870km north-east of Perth.

The screen is shaded by trees and right beside and surrounded by bare dirt roads, and close to the carpark.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations and used to adjust data at Acorn sites.

FAIL

Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 21.55%.

    Ummmmm ?
    Located on the North West coast of WA.But also located on the end of long peninsular jutting out into the Indian ocean. with the Cygnet bay site looking Southwards over a large bay …

    Effectively this site is (almost ) on an island !

    So I wonder how representative the observations are for the rest of the region.

    And yes the site is not compliant with BOM’s own guidelines.
    1: Shaded by trees.
    2: Surrounded by dirt roads
    3 : Close to a car park.
