The Wacky World of Weather Stations: No. 160- Warmun (WA)

Station: Warmun 2032

Opened: 1897

Daily Temperature data from: 1962

Data used to adjust Acorn sites at: Victoria River Downs, Rabbit Flat, Halls Creek, Kalumburu.

Location:   Co-ordinates  -17.0154 128.2174

640km north-east of Broome, 575km south-west of Darwin.

The screen is beside a bare dirt track leading to a carport with a large area of bare dirt, and very close to trees.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations and used to adjust data at Acorn sites.

FAIL

Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 22.1%.

    Ken I see that Warmum is on the Ord River in North West WA. And that Lake Argyle is not that far away. The lake is huge and stores a huge amount of water from the wet season. And then in the dry season there is a lot of evaporation..I wonder if this nearby man major feature has an impact on the temperature recorded by this BOM weather station.

    And as you write this BOM screen is beside a bare dirt track leading to a carport with a large area of bare dirt, and very close to trees.

    Not compliant with BOM’s own guidelines…
