Monday 21/10/2019

Please refer back to my first post for site specifications and to No. 92- Logan City for 2018 specifications.  If you wish to check on this (or any) site for yourself, go to my post on how to check for yourself.

Station: Karijini North 5098

Opened: 2018

Daily Temperature data from: 2018

Data used to adjust Acorn sites at: —

Location:   Co-ordinates  -22.2999 118.4498

235km south-east of Karratha, 1,105km north-east of Perth.

BOM site plan 2019:

Google satellite image 2019:

Here the satellite image is from before the screen was installed but after the AWS. The area around the instruments is a “gravel cleared area”. Not much you can do in desert areas where nothing grows but spinnifex which doesn’t take kindly to being trimmed to a few centimetres. Clearing the area will increase the amount of dust raised by winds.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations but not used to adjust data at Acorn sites.

Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 22.38%.

  1. Bill In Oz Says:

I wonder what this BOM weather station is for. There is no town or airport close by.

Possibly to measure the weather way out in the woop woop !

But if so why maximise the dust contamination ?
