The Wacky World of Weather Stations: No. 165- Denham (WA)

Tuesday 22/10/2019

Please refer back to my first post for site specifications and to No. 92- Logan City for 2018 specifications.  If you wish to check on this (or any) site for yourself, go to my post on how to check for yourself.

Station: Denham 6044

Opened: 1893

Daily Temperature data from: 1988

Data used to adjust Acorn sites at: Carnarvon.

Location:   Co-ordinates  -25.9265 113.5325

715km north of Perth.

BOM site plan 2018:

Google satellite image 2019:

The screen is somewhere in the red oval, or possibly to the left hidden amongst the bushes.

This station was moved here after 2014 from an even worse site. Here it is on a slope that is overgrown with shrubs, 15 metres from a stone wall, and close to sheds, chook pens, and houses. And it is expected to report reliable representative temperatures?

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations and used to adjust data at Acorn sites.

FAIL

Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 22.79%.

  1. Bill In Oz Says:

Ken that’s hot dry part of the world. So the locals planted trees to provide shade and some cooling.
But what is the BOM doing putting it’s weather station among the trees ? Or rather why hasn’t the BOM moved it to somewhere that will give more accurate temperature readings ? There is no shortage of places !
