The Wacky World of Weather Stations: No. 168- Wiluna (WA)

Station: Wiluna 13012

Opened: 1898

Daily Temperature data from: 1957

Data used to adjust Acorn sites at: Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Carnarvon, Meekatharra.

Location:   Co-ordinates  -26.5914 120.2258

750km north-east of Perth, 480km north of Kalgoorlie.

Close to the fire station (a large colourbond shed), with a 2 metre colourbond fence 25 metres to the west, 10 metres from a footpath, 20 metres from bitumen, and close to bare dirt/ gravel (probably from the observer’s vehicle).

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations and used to adjust data at Acorn sites.

FAIL

Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 23.2%.

    Small town; not much Urban Heat Island effect happening. But BOM manages to find what there is !
    And in the process abandons it’s own guidelines for the 168th time.

    And then goes on to compound the stuff up, bu using this inaccurate temperature data to adjust the temperature data at these ACORN stations – Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Carnarvon, Meekatharra.

    Bugger what a mess BOM has made !
