Friday 25/10/2019

Please refer back to my first post for site specifications and to No. 92- Logan City for 2018 specifications.  If you wish to check on this (or any) site for yourself, go to my post on how to check for yourself.

Station: Morawa Airport 8296

Opened: 1997

Daily Temperature data from: 1997

Data used to adjust Acorn sites at: Dalwallinu, Geraldton.

Location:   Co-ordinates  -29.2039 116.0247

310km north of Perth.

BOM site plan 2018:

Google satellite image 2019:

Not exactly surrounded by open paddock- more like scattered low scrub with grass, occasionally slashed. Never mind; there is a bare dirt road surrounding and very close to the screen.

This is an Acorn station but is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations and used to adjust data at other Acorn sites.

Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 24.17%.

Another airport BOM weather station Ken with all that bare graded air strip ground to absorb energy & get hot..

I wonder how many of the 175 Failed weather stations are ACORN ones ? Any idea ?

  2. kenskingdom Says:

A couple of dozen… I’ll report them separately later.

  3. Graeme No.3 Says:

More important, how many of them are actually compliant with their own specifications?
They (the BoM) don’t seem to care, perhaps because they change any readings that don’t confirm their theory.

I’ll report that too, plus those that are marginal. But remember, sites are only inspected once a year and can be neglected and overgrown in that time.
