The Wacky World of Weather Stations: No. 202- Narrogin (WA)

Opened: 1891

Data used to adjust Acorn sites at: Wandering, Katanning, Cunderdin.

Location:   Co-ordinates  -32.9342 117.1797

160km south-east of Perth.

The screen is on bare dirt between (and only a few metres from) a wide bitumen road (four lanes wide at this point), and a rail corridor with at least two tracks of stone ballast, with another bitumen road beyond this.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations and used to adjust data at Acorn sites.


Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 27.9%.

    Wikipedia mentions that the population of Narrogin is ~4200. So there is some UHI effect happening in the town..

    As well as the specific issues of the roads and railway line being so close to the BOM weather station.

    Narrogin used to be a major steam train railway junction. I wonder if the local bush was cleared to provide the steam trains with wood for them/

    Non-compliant – ya think?

    It would be interesting to see the notes that go with the site plan to see if anyone suggested that maybe, possibly some time in the future they might think about moving this site (and all of the others you have found to be non-compliant).
