The Wacky World of Weather Stations: No. 223- Cape Willoughby (SA)

110km south-south-west of Adelaide.

The screen is very close to a large expanse of gravel and 10 metres from 1.7 metres white painted stone wall. The instrument area is tastefully surrounded by white painted stones.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations but not used to adjust data at Acorn sites.


Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 30.8%.

    Ken, an additional perspective : this station is on a bluff overlooking the sea. It is 55 meters above sea level with ‘downslopes’ for ~ 300 degrees around. It’s a spectacular location.

    But as at Kuitpo any cold air, being heavy will fall off this bluff..

    A couple of ks. away are open flatish farm lands. A BOM thermometer there will measure far colder temperatures than Cape Willoughby and be far more representative.
