The Wacky World of Weather Stations: No. 234- Pallamana (SA)

Station: Murray Bridge (Pallamana Aerodrome) 24584

Opened: 2006

Data used to adjust Acorn sites at: —-

Location:   Co-ordinates  -35.0650 139.2273

60km south-east of Adelaide.

The screen is close to large areas of cultivation with a changing vegetation and dust problems.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations but not used to adjust data at Acorn sites.

FAIL

Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 32.32%.

    Yes it is a failed station as well Ken.
    But it is ‘better’ than the actual Murray Bridge BOM station in the middle of town and close to a house and fence as well, if my memory serves me well.

    Also interesting is that the observations from this station show almost nil increase in minimum and maximum average temperatures over the past 13 years, where as Murray Bridge town BOM shows increases in both.- Urban Heat Island effect !

    A general comment about BOM in SA : Here in Mt Barker SA, it’s Tuesday midday and it’s 24 degrees outside my back door. The is a very light breeze. But South Australian CFS on the advice of the BOM has made this a TOTAL FIRE BAN day !

    Frankly I think that is slightly bizarre ! In fact it’s the weirdest TOTAL FIRE BAN Day I can remember. No strong winds at all. And a mild temperature of 24 degrees. Has BOM over reacted ?
