The Wacky World of Weather Stations: No. 238- Cummins (SA)

275km north-west of Adelaide.

The screen is almost surrounded by a wheat paddock that can vary from bare dirt to lush growing crop, and is 40 metres from a very large area of bare gravel aircraft apron and vehicle parking.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations but not used to adjust data at Acorn sites.


Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 32.87%.

    Ummm Ken I am not sure with this one. The nearly paddocks have been cropped for wheat. But the field where the BOM station is located, looks to me like it has been slashed and not cropped.

    But yes there is bare gravel 40 meters away..

    Perhaps the BoM will use the figures to HOMOGENISE other sites with cropped wheat, or those with ropped barley etc.?
