The Wacky World of Weather Stations: No. 243- Andamooka (SA)

Station: Andamooka 16065

Opened: 1965

Daily Temperature data from: 1969

Data used to adjust Acorn sites at: Marree, Oodnadatta, Tarcoola, Woomera.

Location:   Co-ordinates  -30.4490 137.1692

515km north of Adelaide.

The screen is in a gravel carpark, right beside a bitumen road (which was once gravel), 12 metres from a building, close to a stone retaining wall.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations and used to adjust data at Acorn sites.


Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 33.56%.

    Andamooka is a major opal mining area. If one steps back on the Google Earth image one can see the diggings and thus see how different Andamooka is to the surrounding desert country side.

    So locating the BOmweather station out of Andamooka would have been a good idea. But BOM did not do it.

    Instead they located their weather station in this car park. Not clever BOM !
