Opened: 1998

Data used to adjust Acorn sites at: Woomera.

Location:   Co-ordinates  -29.6587 138.0684

590km north of Adelaide, 1,480km west of Brisbane, 1,330km north-west of Sydney.

The screen is 6 metres from a gravelled track, 12 metres from a dirt track, and 40 metres from a helipad.

This Acorn station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations and used to adjust data at other Acorn sites.


Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 33.84%.

    So a Failed BOM ACORN station ‘s observations are used to adjust another ACORN station’s observations ! In this case Woomera.

    I wonder if that means that all observations attributed to Woomera are also failed ?

    It seems rather odd that Maree station wasn’t opened until 1998 whereas Arkaroola supposedly got one 60 years earlier, and has apparently been supplying daily figures since 1978.

    And William, don’t worry. The figures from Arkaroola are used to adjust those from Maree, which are then used to adjust Woomera. I wonder if there is a BoM site called mulberry bush?
