BOM site plan 2015:

Google satellite image 2019:

The site plan from 2015 clearly shows “new growth to 3m” close to the screen and thick scrub well within 20 metres. As well, the plan shows the enclosure in a light brown colour, possible indicating the area was sprayed out, but we don’t know. The more recent satellite image shows the new growth within 4 metres on one side and bare ground nearby.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations but not used to adjust data at Acorn sites.

Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 35.36%.

  1. William in Oz Says:

Mt William is in the Grampians in Western Victoria. It is a major tourist visiting place. And is promoted heavily as a major attraction by National Parks Victoria with a sealed road right to the summit.
So there is a lot of heat island effect here.

Mt William is 1167 meters high. The highest peak in the Grampians.
More information can be found here along with photos of the spectacular scenery.

Another issue directly relevant to the BOM weather station is that it is close to a cliff with heavy cold air falling way from the weather station down the cliff face.

No ! Not a site which complies with the BOM’s siting guidelines !

So why is it located here ?

At least it is not used to adjust other station data ! Whew !

    Just a test Ken
