Please refer back to my first post for site specifications and to No. 92- Logan City for 2018 specifications.  If you wish to check on this (or any) site for yourself, go to my post on how to check for yourself.

Station: Westmere 89112

Opened: 2006

Daily Temperature data from: 2006

Data used to adjust Acorn sites at: —–

Location:   Co-ordinates  -37.7067 142.9378

175km west of Melbourne.

BOM site plan 2010:

Google satellite image 2019:

This is an example of a rural site that has frequent environmental change through cropping, and also change in land use. Since 1910 the trees and fences have been removed and the paddocks have been turned into cultivation. The satellite image shows many machinery tracks probably from hauling out grain to the farm silos, and also the trash has been baled for hay. The screen is in the middle of this changing and dusty environment.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations but not used to adjust data at Acorn sites.

Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 35.64%.

I always think of this neck of the woods as “Lake Bolac” Ken which lies a little way off to the West. This part of Victoria is slightly cooler & on average wetter that the Wimmera & Mallee wheat growing lands to the North West of this site.
I suggest that crop was oats and that’s why the stubble was bailed for hay afterwards.

But all of this only provides a context to that BOM weather station. It doe snot change the simple act that it does not meet the BOM’s own siting guidelines. FAIL
