Google satellite image 2019:

There is a dam 50 metres to the north, and a large area of factories and sheds 130 metres to the west. The main problem is that the instrument enclosure has been spayed out, and the screen is on bare dirt.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations and used to adjust data at Acorn sites.

Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 36.19%.

  1. billinoz Says:

Ken there was a time when going out to Ferntree Gully or Scoresby was a Sunday drive out of Melbourne which ended roughly at Blackburn. Those days are long past. The city sprawls all the way past Ferntree Gully now and into the Dandenong Ranges.

    It’s a city of over 4 million people !

And so the major issue which BOM is ignoring is the Urban Heat Island effect which makes the city warmer than it naturally would be.

Quite why they use heated observations from Scoresby to adjust those at the ACORN BOM site at Laverton over on the other side of Melbourne is a mystery.

It too is now in the midst of the vast urban sprawl of Melbourne. It now goes past even Werribee which formerly no one wanted to live near due to the stink of the city’s sewerage works there.
