The Wacky World of Weather Stations: No. 266- Lake Eildon (Vic)

Opened: 1887

Location:   Co-ordinates  -37.2313 145.9124

105km north-east of Melbourne CBD.

The screen is right beside a gravel carpark (asphalt until 2013), close to a workshop, very close to shrubs and trees, and the ground nearby falls away down a bank.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations and used to adjust data at Acorn sites.


Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 36.74%.

    Ahhhhhh ! Yes Eildon !

    There is a huge lake backed up behind the dam on the Goulburn river there Ken…It’s about 1 kilometer away from that lake. It might have an effect.

    And lake Eildon is a major tourist mecca for Victorians; shying, fishing & general holidaying over Summer.. Thousands of people go there for the day or for weeks at a time in Summer..Happy boyhood days !

    So possibly lots of UHI effect in Summer as well..

    And why use the data from here to muck around with Gabo Island data almost 400 ks. away off the Eastern coast of Vic ?

    But hey the BOM knows what it’s doing – NOT !
