Friday 06/12/2019

Please refer back to my first post for site specifications and to No. 92- Logan City for 2018 specifications.  If you wish to check on this (or any) site for yourself, go to my post on how to check for yourself.

Station: Hartz Mountain (Keogh’s Pimple) 94191

Opened: 1994

Daily Temperature data from: 1996

Data used to adjust Acorn sites at: Cape Bruny.

Location:   Co-ordinates  -43.2006 146.7683

57km south-west of Hobart

BOM site plan 2016:

Google satellite image 2019:

The station is sited on a tiny area on a peak with the land falling steeply away on all sides. The screen is very close (a couple of metres) to rocks, a concrete slab, and trees.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations and used to adjust data at Acorn sites.

Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 39.36%.

That concludes Tasmania. Of 47 checkable stations, 20 (42.5%) are not compliant. A further 12 are marginal, leaving just 15 compliant- 31.9%.

Next we have a closer look at some stations in New South Wales.

Ken I guess that few employed staff at BOM have any knowledge of what is required under their own site guidelines. I wonder is this ‘professional’ ignorance or professional stupidity ?

One thing is very clear there is a complete lack of expertise !
