The Wacky World of Weather Stations: No. 291- Tenterfield (NSW)

200km south-west of Brisbane, 500km north of Sydney.

The screen is about 4 metres from a brick and concrete structure probably housing a water pump. There two other concrete slabs close to the screen. The area inside the enclosure appears to be gravel or else sprayed out.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations but not used to adjust data at Acorn sites.


Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 40.19%.

    Ken, Tenterfield is in drought at the moment. But inevitably there will be a flood.
    And this site is close to Tenterfield creek. In fact on the floodplain of the creek. And then this BOM site will be flooded.I wonder what the impact on the screen temperature will be.

    Also how close is that line of deciduous 2-3 meter high trees to the BOM screen ? in the photo they are not in leaf. ( Winter ? ) But is Spring thye will leaf out and then shade the screen I think.

    Last flood was 2011 : Lots of photos here :
    And this pdf lists on page 19 the last major floods with 1976 being the highest.
