This is another rural site which should be ideal, but unfortunately it is neglected. The grass in the enclosure is up to 50cm high, and in every previous inspection it was 50 to 90cm high, except once when it was “recently mowed”.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations but not used to adjust data at Acorn sites.

Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 40.75%.

Ken there is something weird going on here. Yanco is the NSW government’s research station for the MIS – Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area.

The climate is very dry in this area..Low rainfall. And all cropping or fruit orchard ( or dope for that matter ) relies on the water from the MIA scheme.

Looking at the over all view of Yanco, it appears dry with odd patches of greenery.

And the BOM station is one of those patches..I suggest it is being watered in order to meet the BOM’s guidelines about the area being grassed. Bu then not being mowed regularly..
