The Wacky World of Weather Stations: No. 241- Nullarbor (SA)

Station: Nullarbor 18106

Opened: 1888

Daily Temperature data from: 1986

Data used to adjust Acorn sites at: Ceduna, Eucla, Forrest.

Location:   Co-ordinates -31.4492 130.8976

800km north-west of Adelaide, 1,400km east of Perth.

Oh dear. All that enormous expanse of nothing except “low grass and bluebush”, and the screen is placed less than 3 metres from a wide gravel caravan park. Vehicles can (and do, in the satellite image) park close to it.

This station is non-compliant, with temperatures reported at Latest Weather Observations and used to adjust data at Acorn sites.

FAIL

Percentage of all Australian sites not compliant: 33.29%.

    Being located where it is, I wonder how many visitors this BOM screen gets a year Ken. I hope it is locked. But who knows ?

    And I wonder, in Summer how many of the touring vans & caravans parking close by, are pumping out hot air conditioning exhaust air..? Keeping them all cool but warming the air by the BOM station.

    The same question also needs to be asked in the other seasons..It can get very cold at night in Winter.
